A 'Major' Award

It's that time of year, for our annual Christmas decoration awards. This is our second year of doing it, and it was just as fun as the first. Just a quick explanation on how the awards work. We drive around the neighborhood and each child gets to pick a house with Christmas decorations they like the best. They take a bottle of sparkling cider to the door to present the unknowing recipient of their prize.

Here is a look at the major awards from this year.

I added a poem to the awards, to give a little more of a reason why we stop and knock at random people's doors. Here is what the poem said:

During this special time of year
We,as a family, love to see all the cheer.
Each of us has a favorite, so without more adieu,
We are presenting this award to you!

Then on the other side I put:

Congratulations!
You are the winner of
(child's name)
favorite Christmas decorations!

(If you remember, last year 'A' did not want to have any part in doing this, so I was a little apprehensive about this year.)

We had 'D' go first. He wasn't hard to please in what house he liked. We knocked to two houses before we found someone home. ('D' was completly crushed when no one answered at the first house.) But at the third house, we awarded an older couple, and they were just tickled that they had been selected.

Then 'A' suddenly announced that he had already picked out his house, and he wanted to go to the door on his own. Trying not to act to surprised, we asked him to direct us to his chosen house. We pulled up, he got out, went right up to the door and delivered the award. It was a Christmas miracle.

Then it was 'P' turn. He also had a house picked out. We drove up, he jumped out and delivered his. When he got back in the car, he told us the owner of the house just kept saying 'Thank you like a thousand times.'

So with another sucessful year of awards given, we are ready for Christmas.

Love this tradition & we are going to steal this idea because as Anne of Green Gables says "Imitation is the highest form of flattery."

That sounds so fun. We may steal the tradition too. But we are to busy this year so if you could do it and post it a little earlier next year, so I will remember in time, that would be great. ;)
